MEDIA TRUST YOUTH MENTOR TRAINING

Media Trust Youth Mentor Training
Date:
Wednesday 2nd November
Location:
BBC Scotland, Pacific Quay, Glasgow
Room:
Old Man of Hoy, 1st Floor

Want to give a bit back?

Want to have an impact on young people's lives using your skills and creativity?

You can by using a little of your spare time by volunteering through the Media Trust, which works with the media industry to empower charities, communities and young people most in need.

The Youth Mentoring scheme enables media professionals to share practical skills with disadvantaged 13-25 year olds working on media projects in Glasgow.

It's an opportunity to use your expertise to help unlock young people's potential and at the same time develop your skills, including communication and leadership. You'll gain a sense of personal achievement and reward and understand more about the issues young people face.

Media Trust needs people who have practical media skills, the ability to offer inspiration and encouragement, at least a few hours of free time, and an interest in working with young people.

How involved you get is up to you. The scheme is shaped by requests from youth organisations and you could be offered the opportunity to work with an individual or a group, for a short or long term project. There's no need to commit until you find something that's right for you. Whatever time you can contribute, your expertise and experience will have a real impact.

They're looking for media professionals with skills in DV camera operation, scriptwriting, directing, producing, editing, journalism, photography, radio production and design.

How will it work?

·        Apply to the scheme by completing an application form here http://www.mediatrust.org/give-support/volunteer-with-us/

·        Once the Media Trust has reviewed your application they'll get in touch and invite those accepted to a training session at BBC Glasgow to learn a bit more about the role of a mentor and how to prepare for projects

·        Those attending the training session will be Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked

·        They'll keep you updated with upcoming media projects that match your skills

·        Once you hear about a project that interests you and fits with your schedule, they'll match you to the youth organisation so you can get started

·        Media Trust will support you throughout your involvement in the scheme

If you are interested in taking part in the scheme, please apply here http://www.mediatrust.org/give-support/volunteer-with-us/mentoring/ or email Sophia Swidzinska at Media Trust for more information: sophias@mediatrust.org
